Respect Works: Safe Dates

Here are the essentials of leading a youth group. In the life of a youth minister, the part of the job description that sounds like “and whatever else is necessary” often comes into play. Here is a workshop with solid, practical advice and methods for being pastoral in these situations. Has it been a long while since your church had a thriving youth ministry? This seminar keeps up to date with basics and ideas for reaching out to youth in your church and community with real ministry. It may be both!

WHO

What’s up with teen dating anyway?!? Before you begin this study on teen dating I want to make sure you undestand how I set this thing up. You shouldn’t read this all at the same time. It’s set up in days. Some of the days you may combine.

Nowadays, it would be very hard for a Christian to marry someone without dating him/her first, so I’d say that Christians are free to date, but they should do it biblically, dating the right person at the right time, and staying pure throughout the process.

So here are my thoughts on youth group rules. Why your youth group needs rules Rules bring clarity to all involved, be it parents, youth, volunteers, leaders, or church members. They have rules at school, when playing sports, at home hopefully! Try and use some common sense when you make the rules and suppress the urge to put every little thing into a rule. That being said, here are some issues that you may want to address in your rules: Make sure to list the rules on the part of the consent form that stays with the parents.

My advice is to ask the parents to discuss the rules with their kids themselves, have them take some responsibility in this area. Be sure to check out this post on small group rules.

I learned the importance of Christian relationships at a young age. In the 7th grade, I attended a very small church. It was so small that I was not in the junior high youth group I was the junior high youth group.

Included are youth facts, funding information, and tools to help you assess community assets, generate maps of local and federal resources, search for evidence-based youth programs, and keep up-to-date on the latest, youth-related news.

By – February 13, This blog post should generate a lot of interest. If you are a student pastor or a leader in a youth group, you probably have been faced with this concept and question in your mind at some point. If you are a student reading this post, you probably have been faced with the frustration of the rules that a youth pastor or leader put on you for dating.

You cannot control dating. That is a parent decision. It is not up to you to tell students that they cannot date someone of the opposite sex. So, the answer to this blog post is fairly simple, you cannot control it, but I want to take this discussion to a different level, how do we approach dating in our youth group? I tend to take a more conservative approach to this than most.

I look at teen dating as a waste of time, personally. Please do not be offended by that, but the odds are slim to none that a relationship in middle school and high school will continue. Some do, and that is great, but many do not. More often, I see relationships built in student ministry, and then a result is horrible and ugly break ups that affect the friendships, cause drama and, in a lot of cases, tend to be uncomfortable for other students surrounding these dating issues.

Education

Feel free to add or subtract to fit your youth group needs. Then the youth will tell you what title they selected and you will read to them one of the questions under the title. What do you feel about the poor in the world? If you could ask Christ to change one problem in the world today, what would you like him to change?

The following is a guest post from Ally Spotts, author of the e-book, Asking All The Wrong Questions: Why Christians Are Waiting for Marriage for Sex.. It used to drive me crazy that people would talk about sex like it was the worst sin in the universe. I grew up in the church.

July 17, by dan When you became a Christian, a transformation took place in your life. You became a new creation and that means that you now have a new way to live 2 Corinthians 5: What you find is that Jesus has something to say about how you are living in every area of your life, and He wants you to obey Him. One area of your life that you are called to obey Him is the area of dating or going out. But dating is not marriage! What does Jesus have to say about dating?

Not a lot, or so it seems. That was the culture then, as it still is in some parts of the world. In fact, Jesus lays down a number of principles that can be applied to the issue of dating, and what I want us to see is that:

Youth Ministry Seminars and Retreat topics.

Over the past five years, hundreds of questions consistently revolve around the same themes. If you are a parent or youth worker, this list might help you get into their heads. It is a general consolidations of hundreds of questions.

In the book, “Radical Respect; A Christian Approach to Love, Sex and Dating,” by Jim Burns (no relation to Mr. Burns), there is a chapter on The Sexual Purity Challenge. Letters are received every day from ordinary people who are making an extraordinary decision for God and for themselves.

Additionally, the script has questions to cover and activities to be used. This moderator guide should have times for each section, with the entire session lasting no longer than ninety minutes. The Role of the Facilitator The facilitator has an important role in creating a successful focused group discussion. The goal of the facilitator is to generate the maximum amount of discussion and opinions within a given time period.

To do so, the facilitator should: Ask broad questions to elicit responses and generate discussion among the participants. Maintain a neutral attitude and appearance.

Youth Devotion

I grew up in the church. I did and kept them in a box under my bed. But as I got older and started dating I discovered that there were all kinds of tricky loopholes to the whole virginity thing. You could mess around with a dozen guys, do everything except sex, and you were still allowed to call yourself a virgin.

Here are some discussion questions and topics to help create interaction in your youth group. Feel free to add or subtract to fit your youth group needs. Take the title of each section and replicate the titles by the number of questions/topics in each section and space them out in a word processing document, then cut each one out individually.

There is also a letter with four questions you can have mom and dad fill out for each girl. They will LOVE and treasure this letter. Included is a page of awesome quotes that are really relevant to the youth. There is also a print with 40 cheap and fun group dates. That is a great handout! Here are some thoughts on this subject by Shannon: Most youth love to talk about dating. It is what they think about and what to know more about! Whenever we talked about it, their eyes lit up and I had their total attention and I consistently felt a great need to bring this back into the lives of our youth.

The statements in this pamphlet are so inspired.

Fervr interviews regular contributor Alex Greaves for his thoughts on Christians, dating, and sexual purity. Alex, what does the Bible say about dating? Okay, does the Bible say anything that might impact Christians when they begin thinking about dating and sexual purity? A man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed. For those who are not married, we get this command from 1 Timothy 5:
